Will the novelty ever wear off?

Last night I (again) asked myself, when will this get old? When will the fact that I can walk to Carnegie Hall from work to see one of the greatest orchestras in the world play phenomenal music on a random Tuesday night wear off? Does it stop being novel? And my answer (again) was: I don't think so.

I am now a season ticket holder at Carnegie Hall. Back in May I received their bright and beautiful 2007-2008 season book with all their ticket series and I literally sat in my bed for a solid hour looking through it. I firmly believe that there will be a small place (or many large spaces?) in heaven where there is just beautiful orchestra music being played. At all times. And I'm a straight up traditional classical music orchestra kind of girl. None of this modern dissonant artsy stuff. The Romantic period is about as modern as I get. I also happen to love piano concerts like it's no one's business. Last weekend when my wonderful father visited we went to see Andras Schiff (a pianist) play Beethoven sonatas at Carnegie. But last night began my first series- International Festival of Orchestras- with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. They did Mozart, they did Beethoven, they did Prokofiev. I couldn't have been more happy all the way up in my nose bleed section (
I may be a season ticket holder but I still have bills to pay) sitting beside the lovely Miss Kishbauch.

Remaining concerts in that series: Berlin Philharmonic, Kirov Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic
My other series is Great Artists in Concert. This includes Joshua Bell (violin), Yo-Yo Ma (cello), and Andras Schiff (piano).
These concerts span from yesterday through mid April 2008. And I couldn't be more thrilled to have such great music to look forward to. If you would like to be my +1, please let me know. I love experiencing music with other people who appreciate its beauty. Oh what joy to simply enjoy music for music's sake in one of the greatest concert halls in the world. There is no doubt in my mind that beautiful music in a beautiful place will never be something I grow tired of or that will get old. Ever ever.

If I'm ever in NYC on a Carnegie night, you know I will without a second thought be your +1. Also, Dan's uncle played piano in Carnegie the other night, accompanying the Yale choir doing Ives. Ives = kinda weird, but Dan's uncle playing in Caregie = cool. :)
